Welcome to my Work(s) In Progress page. Since the publication of my first book in 1999 I've amassed a backlist of unpublished material. Here's how the industry works. Or used to work. An unpublished writer finishes a manuscript, and then submits it to a publisher in hopes of publication.
Meanwhile, the prolific writer starts another manuscript while waiting for the publisher to come back with an offer or a rejection. Some publishers prefer to see partial manuscripts, usually three chapters and a synopsis. Partials and proposals of less than three chapters become the norm after an author is published.
Contrary to popular belief, not everything a published author writes makes it into print. Some authors, like myself, wind up with more rejections than contracts. Not all rejections are because a book is bad. Sometimes a story just doesn't fit the publisher's vision for their imprint or author.
So what's an author to do when her best work is still on her hard drive? With the proliferation of ebooks there are some exciting options. Self-publishing no longer carries the stigma it once did. It's my goal to finish these stories (not all of them rejections) and see them published in whatever format. As I develop this page I'll try to post a little about each one. Please cheer me on to completion.
And if you don't see those blue lines move give me a nudge now and then. rogenna@aol.com
My first two ebooks (coming early 2012) are anthologies of stories set aside, but not forgotten. I've since finished them as novellas and packaged them together as anthologies. I even designed my own covers!
